Meet Kri!

Kri is a sophomore at the University of Texas at Dallas, majoring in Information Technology Systems with a focus on cybersecurity. After graduation, he aims to excel in cybersecurity and work on exciting classified projects. Kri loves soccer, so watching a game during his free time helps him feel relaxed and energized.

He discovered FirstGenU through ScholarShot, a program offering career advice and scholarships to first-generation students. Kri registered for the program believing it would improve his networking and leadership skills.

Kri Neupane a FirstGenU Ambassador

“FirstGenU helped me feel proud of being a first-generation student. Before joining, I used to think it meant I might not fit in at school or in professional settings as well as with students who aren’t first-gen. But being in this program gave me confidence and helped me overcome that fear. Now, I feel secure about being a first-gen student. “

Since completing the modules, he frequently uses the career development and networking skills he learned. He has also made the most of community and networking opportunities. He connects with other first-generation students and professionals sharing experiences and gaining valuable insights.

“Thanks to FirstGenU, I’m not scared to join any program, even if I’m the only first-gen student there. I think it’s a chance to show that being first-gen is a strength. I believe in myself and my unique perspective, and I’m ready to inspire others by confidently being a part of any program. Whether through online platforms or events, I actively participate in building a supportive network. This has not only expanded my connections but also provided guidance and encouragement, helping me navigate my journey as a first-gen student with confidence. “

During the program, he participated in virtual social hours hosted by FirstGenU Ambassadors, alumni who actively build the student community.

“I went to a social hour hosted by the Ambassadors and really connected with them. This inspired me to want to help other first-generation students start their careers, so I decided to become an Ambassador as well.”

Support FirstGenU and help us create more opportunities for first-generation students to have the tools they need to grow throughout their careers.
