Volunteer FAQs

We are looking for college graduates with 1+ years of work experience post graduation that are willing to share their industry expertise and network. Volunteers must care about advancing racial equity and supporting economic mobility for first-generation college students and support our mission.

We have opportunities to volunteer with ANY all year long! Check out our calendar of events for upcoming single day volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in becoming a Mentor Coach, applications are accepted through June with programming beginning in July.

Mentor Coaches are matched one-on-one with an ANY Fellow and work with that same Fellow for their two-year participation in the program. Mentor Coaches participate in one half-day workshop a month along with individualized support to their Fellow based on availability and need.

Single day volunteer opportunities can be one-time or recurring (ie. workshops, informational interviews, mock interviews, resume review and support) where you will meet with several of our Fellows, offering your personal expertise and professional experience.

The Fellows program currently operates in California (downtown Los Angeles), Illinois (Chicago), northern New Jersey, and New York (NYC).

Many of our single day opportunities are virtual, so you may participate from anywhere!

If you are signing up to be a Mentor Coach, you must reside in that site location as you will need to participate in in-person events. Please keep in mind Saturday workshops are from 9:30-3:00PM in the site’s respective time zone.

In-person workshops have resumed as of May 2022, in addition to offering virtual volunteer opportunities throughout the program year. If you volunteer as a Mentor Coach or at an in-person workshop, you must provide proof of being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (You are fully vaccinated if you have received a second dose in a two-dose vaccine series [Moderna or Pfizer] or two weeks after you have received a single-dose vaccine [Johnson and Johnson]).

For all of our single day volunteer opportunities, you will attend a brief orientation/onboarding immediately before your event.

Mentor coaches will be trained and onboarded at the start of programming in July and receive support from ANY staff throughout the program.

As a volunteer, you will work alongside our ANY Fellows, helping them achieve their career ambitions. You will have the opportunity to network with highly accomplished professionals from a variety of industries, serve as a role model and resource for our community, and gain access to exclusive professional development events.

91% of volunteers said partnering with ANY has provided more personal fulfillment compared to other volunteer opportunities.

85% said they’ve expanded their professional networks through ANY.

84% said volunteering with ANY has made them a better leader or manager.

In addition to the above, there are countless intangible benefits to joining ANY; you will make lifelong friends (we’ve even had married couples meet through ANY!), be exposed to new perspectives, and equip the next generation with knowledge you wish you’d had in college.

Yes! We would love to have you join us as a Mentor Coach! You can apply here.

You can learn more about our eligibility requirements for Fellows here.

As part of the two-year program, Fellows receive extensive career development training, one-on-one mentorship, opportunities to interact with robust professional networks, and holistic support to overcome personal and academic challenges, such as transferring from a community college.
